Tips for Hanging a Polyptych

4/27/2024

Hanging a polyptych, a multi-panel artwork, can be a creative and visually striking way to display art. Here are some tips to ensure you hang it effectively:
  1. Plan Your Space: Before hanging your polyptych, consider the wall space where you want to display it. Take measurements and visualize how the artwork will fit within the space.
  2. Choose a Focal Point: Decide on the focal point of the polyptych. This could be the center panel or a specific panel that you want to highlight.
  3. Consider Symmetry and Balance: Pay attention to the visual balance of the polyptych. If the panels are different sizes or shapes, consider how they interact with each other when hung.
  4. Test Placement Before Finalizing: Before making any holes in the wall, experiment with the arrangement of the panels on the floor or by using paper templates. This will allow you to visualize the final look and make adjustments as needed.
  5. Step Back and Assess: Once the polyptych is hung, step back and assess the overall look. Make any final adjustments to ensure that the artwork is perfectly aligned and balanced within the space.
By following these tips, you can hang your polyptych with confidence and create a stunning focal point in your home or space.

I am preoccupied by the intuitive journey that paint takes me on with its colour and texture when working with layers that can be revealed through scratching back, rubbing away or lifting, to bring back the history of the previous layers.
