WHITE WATER RAFTING series (2022)
8x8, acrylic on paper on gallery depth birch panel. Google it! White Water Rafting. To be totally honest I have never done white water rafting and I probably never will. It scares me to the bone. But I love the images that I see of people diving into the river with their colourful paddles and life jackets to immerse themselves in the power of nature. I'll watch from the sidelines and completely understand the enjoyment of that natural energy with the sound of the rushing water. |
SUMMER GARDEN series (2022)
8x8, acrylic on paper on gallery depth birch panel With the summer rapidly coming to the end, my garden exploded with colour, randomly placed without so much as a "May I". It's rather wild with plants growing as they wish. Stronger plants pushing out the weaker ones. I love this wild impromptu aspect of my garden. It is uncontrolled just as nature is in the wild. It verges on just being a meadow that birds and butterflies enjoy as I do. I don't mind sharing! |
LEMON RHUBARB TART series (2022)
8x8, acrylic on paper on gallery depth birch panel Thanksgiving is a wrap, the turkey will linger on tomorrow in leftovers but it is the Lemon Rhubarb Tart that will stay in the front of everyone's memory. Dessert finishes the festivities with it's tart sweet contrast not to be followed by another course. |
TIDAL POOL series (2022)
8x8, acrylic on paper on gallery depth birch panel Once again... just Google it. What amazing colours! I once had the opportunity to 'puddle jump' from pool to pool on the west coast south of Vancouver. Sure I took photos but those photos simply did not capture what I was seeing. I'm an inexperienced photographer and the reflections of the water's surface got between me and what I could see. So the only solution was to work from memory and Google imagery from photographers who know what they are doing. |
RETURN TO THE ISLAND series (2021)
6x6, acrylic on paper on gallery depth birch panel. These works may be small in measurements but they were inspired by a big event... the return to the Artists' Residency on Toronto Island during a period when COVID had settled for a period. The sunsets were spectacular during this week of intense art making while keeping to our Island bubble of artists. In these pieces I have highlighted both the sky colours and the snow fencing still on the beaches. |
WHERE FROM HERE series (2020)
oil and wax on gallery depth birch panel. This is my 2020 journey through incomplete lock downs, restricted travel and encounters forbidden. 2020 had its twists and turns with no one knowing which way to go. Then we chose to close the door on others, keeping to ourselves only opening the door an inch to allow others in, one at a time. |
