On January 2, 2025 I arrived in Pouch Cove Newfoundland for a one month invitational artists' residency along with five other follow artists from the Ottawa valley and one artist from the UK. We were blessed with some fabulous weather suitable for taking in the beauty of the area with hikes on the East Coast Trail. We also had the pleasure of experiencing Newfoundland's winter wind and crashing waves at the coast. In between these wonderful outings it was heads down in each of our studios to get work done.
In the evenings we often gathered for an artist cooked dinner, a bring-your-own dinner or a marvellous Water Witch Fish & Chips take away. We talked about art and life and what we were all working on. There were 2 artists in the main building directly above the James Baird Art Gallery and 4 artists out back in the loft studios. Each of us had a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, sitting area and studio all to ourselves. The Pouch Cove Foundation building is the original school for Pouch Cove, completely renovated into artists studios and has been running for 25 years. Every month 8 artists are invited to spend an entire month creating, all as a gift from James Baird. I would like to extend the biggest thank you to James for the invitation and the experience of a lifetime. Comments are closed.

I am preoccupied by the intuitive journey that paint takes me on with its colour and texture when working with layers that can be revealed through scratching back, rubbing away or lifting, to bring back the history of the previous layers. Archive
