Mixed Media Artist Catherine Gutsche
What a GREAT summer!
"MY" style
It has been well worth this spring/summer's exploration into developing my style. I'm beginning to really find my comfort zone and am thoroughly enjoying this phase in my career. And it is paying off with some very nice sales and a couple of commissions. One commission was a Tie painting done for the mother of one of my high school friends, the other was for a young man as a gift from his grandmother to honour his graduation as a full fledged plumber. The Tie had a facet on it. A fun and very unique, not to mention appropriate tie.

Ties Inspire more art overseas
In as much as I am now only doing commissions when it comes to Tie Paintings, the collection is gaining popularity internationally. Last winter when the Tie collection was on display at the Ottawa International Airport departure lounge, they were viewed by thousands. Even though my display tie was stolen, one viewer was delighted enough to take the concept back to France where she introduced her 10 year old art students to colour and pattern lessons when she had them collect ties and do their own Tie Paintings.  Have a look at the school's website to see the results. Boathouse Studio
While on vacation I took over the family cottage boathouse and turned it into a studio. In my last newsletter I promised you Mono prints pulled from Gelatin plates. Well, that is exactly what I spent my time doing in the "boathouse studio". Below is "Melody I" that was was pulled using natural plant elements found around the cottage, discarded veggie bags from dinner the night before and then sealed with a spray varnish. Once sealed the surface was embellished with mixed media additions. I am definitely adding this technique to "my style".
