Mixed Media Artist Catherine Gutsche
I don't do Landscapes!
How often I have said "I don't do landscapes". Well, so far that is still the truth but this winter I tried my hand at a Seascape. Still in an abstract mixed media method but with the look and feel of the ocean. As usual, I started this piece with the texture built with light modeling paste and tissue and no particularly clear plan for the next step. I prefer to allow my paintings to take on an organic growth as they develop.

Café Art Canvas Round Robin
Is anyone interested in a "Café Art Canvas Round Robin" project? I'm looking for about 5 artists who want to have some fun working on a collaborative painting. Here's how it will work.... Each artist buys a 16"x16" gallery depth canvas. Artist #1 will sign the back of the canvas and begin a painting. Once each artist has their "starter" we will meet at a restaurant or cafe for a coffee, perhaps in Carp, Kanata or Stittsville. We'll exchange starters and go home to paint part 2. When all artists have part 2 completed & signed on the back, we meet again and exchange the paintings for part 3. Each of the 5 artists will paint on each of the canvases. Then finally at meeting #6 we'll see what we have and the original artist will claim back their canvas.

If it turns out we are brilliant collaborators, we'll try to find a display venue to either just display or display & sell. The profit can go to a charity of our choice. Let me know if you want to be a "CaféCanvas" member.

Calico Communications

For those of you who know me well, you will know that I am also the owner of Calico Communications. As we rolled over to 2010 Calico Communications got a face-lift and a whole new look. The message is the same, good web design is built on clarity, simplicity and individuality but the look is lighter and cleaner. I look for ward to hearing any and all feedback on the site, its function and mostly its message.

4 pieces travel long distances

This past quarter I said bye to 2 paintings and 2 mono prints. Cranberry Harvest has traveled the furthest. It is now hanging in a private collection in the UK, Tangerine Sunrise has gone to an owner in Grande Prairie. And 2 mono prints, Melody II and Organic Letter went to a collector in Washington State. I will miss these pieces but I know where they live and I know if I wanted to I could still visit them.
