Local Artist's Innovative Paintings in Auction to Support Prostate Cancer
Kinburn artist Catherine Gutsche is teaming up with the 3 Yellow Tulips Art Shoppe in Pakenham to support Prostate Cancer Research.
Gutsche's paintings will be the highlight of a day-long Prostate Cancer Information Day to be held September 24 on the lawn at the gallery (4839 Kinburn Side Road).
Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer among Canadian men, with one in seven men being affected by it during their lifetime. The Canadian Cancer Society predicts that in 2006 an estimated 20,700 men ( or 398 every week) will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and that 4,200 will die of it.
Gutsche has taken her whimsical style and applied it to a pair of vibrant ties donated to the event by prostate cancer survivor Max Keeping and a surprise member of the Senators Hockey Club. Her two paintings have been donated to the cause and will be auctioned off during the event.
"I'm calling Max Keeping's tie painting 'Papa Bear' because of its teddy bear theme," says Gutsche. "And I want it to be a reminder that all Papa Bears need to pay attention to their health and get regular checkups."
Gutsche's paintings are in private collections in North America and Europe. When worn ties exude personality. Gutsche takes that personality and reflects it on her canvas. Every painting is a one-of-a-kind explosion of colour and is often used to preserve a family heirloom, a sentimental gift, or a humorous memory. View her work at: www.CatherineGutsche.com
